I have been an avid thrifter and collector for decades. I can spend hours scouring flea markets, thrift shops, Goodwill and estate sales and do just that on most weekends. My home is an eclectic mix of my many finds and probably decorated with 80% previously loved furniture, art and decorations. MCM holds a special place in my heart - there's just something about the clean lines of the furniture and the whimsy of the decorative pieces that brings me so much happiness. This is my first foray into online selling, but I'm very excited to share the treasures I find and to be included in this community.
Beautiful vintage Russian lacquered papier-mâché box featuring a detailed miniature painting of Saint George slaying the dragon. The colorful scene is framed by a delicate gold scroll border, while the interior is finished in traditional bright red lacquer.
The handwritten Cyrillic inscription on the underside translates approximately as:
“The Miracle of George and the Dragon” Mstyora Executed by P. Moshkovich
Mstyora is one of Russia’s celebrated centers of lacquer-miniature painting, known for imagery derived from traditional icons, folklore and historic tales. This religious scene is executed in the classic Mstyora palette of warm ochre, red and deep green with fine gold detailing.
