The Stiffel Company was founded in Chicago, Illinois, by Theodore S. Stiffel in 1932. They made high-end table lamps and floor lamps designed to bring traditional artistic styles into modern American homes. Their lamps were crafted using heavy cast brass components, hand-finished patinas, and distinctive architectural motifs.
Families placed these heavy brass lamps on living room end tables, sideboards, and hallway consoles to provide warm accent lighting. They were plugged into standard wall outlets and often paired with tailored pleated shades to complete a formal interior look. Over time, changing home decor tastes shifted away from heavy traditional brass fixtures toward more minimalist lighting designs.
