1929-1933
The Indiana Glass Company made glassware like this in Dunkirk, Indiana, during the 1920s and 1930s. These pieces were mass-produced in large quantities to be sold cheaply or given away as promotional items in stores and movie theaters during difficult economic times. Workers pressed molten glass into metal molds using automated machinery, which gave the items their raised patterns and distinct color tints.
Homemakers used these colorful glass dishes on dining tables and sideboards to serve candy, nuts, or fruit during family gatherings. They brightened up everyday meals when households could not afford expensive imported tableware. As kitchen styles and dining habits changed over the decades, these decorative bowls were eventually stored away in cupboards and passed down through families.
