Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
1925-1935
Glass factories in Bohemia, a historical region within modern-day Czechia, made decorative glassware like this biscuit barrel. These items were produced during the Art Deco period of the 1920s and 1930s to meet a growing demand for stylish home accessories. Workers created them by pressing molten glass into metal molds to form the heavy texture, then finishing details with acid frosting or polishing.
Families used these lidded jars on dining tables and sideboards to store biscuits, sweets, or small household items. They sat in living rooms and dining rooms where guests could easily reach inside during afternoon tea or social gatherings. Over time, changing kitchen storage habits and a shift toward minimalist tableware led to the decline of decorative tabletop biscuit barrels.
