Traditional metalworkers employed time-honored techniques including sand casting, hand chasing, and acid etching to create intricate surface patterns on everyday objects and decorative vessels. These pieces were crafted using copper and zinc alloys, polished to a bright finish, and frequently embellished with floral or foliate motifs.
During the mid-to-late 20th century, a vast quantity of these hand-engraved brass items were exported globally, finding widespread popularity in Western home decor markets. They were sold through import shops and department stores as affordable decorative accessories, appreciated for their warm metallic tones and traditional craftsmanship. Today, these vintage export pieces survive as charming reminders of mid-century global trade and traditional Indian metalworking heritage.
