I enjoy antiques and vintage items, knowing they have a history. I love decorating my own space with these items as well as passing them on to others who have the same passion in older items. Come browse my shop and enjoy!
This is an antique Bavarian porcelain hair receiver featuring hand-painted white and lavender daisy flowers. The vanity jar is accented with gold trim along the lid and base.
Hair receivers were used in the Victorian era to store hair collected from brushes for later repurposing into cushions or hairpieces.
The backstamp visible on the bottom of the porcelain vanity piece belongs to the renowned German factory Zeh, Scherzer & Co. (commonly abbreviated as Z.S. & Co.).The factory was established in Rehau, Bavaria, Germany in 1880.
This particular green-ink stamp was used by the firm between 1880 and 1918. The factory heavily exported its high-quality table and decorative wares to the United States during this window.
