The silver lid has a "800" stamp, which means the lid is composed of 800 parts pure silver out of 1000, with the remaining 200 parts typically consisting of copper for strength. Unlike Anglo-American sterling silver which has a 92.5% purity level ("925"), an "800" fineness stamp strongly indicates that the silver lid was manufactured in Continental Europe—most commonly in Germany, Italy, Austria, or France—during the late 19th or early 20th century.
