Vintage 1979 Satsuma Japanese Porcelain Peacock Trinket Box with Lid - Arnart Imports - Made in Japan
Gorgeous 1970s Satsuma ware round trinket / powder box featuring that stunning peacock.
Details:
• LID: Two large peacocks with long gold gilded tail feathers with eye details, perched among cherry blossoms, white daisies, pink and red peonies, and big white chrysanthemums. Deep red border band with gold stenciled flowers and scrollwork. Heavy gold trim on rim.
• SIDES: Continues the design - another peacock standing on a rock among yellow and orange mums and red asters, alternating with red and gold brocade panels
• INSIDE: White porcelain with tiny orange floral sprig in center bottom and matching sprig inside lid - clean
• MARKS: Inside bottom stamped "SATSUMA © ARNART IMPORTS INC. 1979" with raised enamel flower bouquet above, plus original blue oval foil sticker "Made in Japan" - see photos
Perfect jewelry box, trinket box, dresser box. Classic 70s Japanese import decor.
Measurements: About 5 inches across x 2 inches tall. The size is perfect for rings and earrings.
Condition: Good vintage condition. No chips or cracks. Typical light crazing to the Satsuma glaze - normal for age. Gold gilt is bright with very light wear on high points of lid edge. Please see all 6 detailed photos - the close-ups show the raised gold texture.
