By purchasing from me you are contributing to my local food bank in Sequim (pronounced Skwim) Washington. I give a portion of my proceeds to them each quarter. Plumb Crazy Vintage is run by treasure hunter Joan Plumb, finding vintage, antique, and delightfully unique pieces with personality. I collect because I love the thrill of the hunt—and giving special finds a second life in a new home. If it makes me smile, it made the cut. I usually ship the 1st business day after purchase.
A Fabulous Time Capsule - 1960s Las Vegas Cha-Cha Contest Winner in High-End Gold Bamboo Frame
You are viewing a wonderful vintage find - an original photograph from Las Vegas, presented in a very heavy, high-quality gold gilt faux bamboo frame.
According to family history, the glamorous woman in the photograph had just won a cha-cha contest at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas where this photo was taken. She is pictured in a stunning sequined white gown and dark mink stole, posed in front of a white grand piano with Greek key detail. A true piece of old Vegas glamour!
This listing is for BOTH the original vintage photograph and the beautiful bamboo frame together as found.
ABOUT THE FRAME - THE STAR OF THE SHOW:
This is NOT a lightweight reproduction. This is a very heavy, substantial, high-quality vintage frame, likely made of brass / metal with a rich gold gilt finish.
• Style: Faux Bamboo, Hollywood Regency, Chinoiserie - very on-trend and highly collectible
• Construction: Very heavy, solid metal. Detailed bamboo nodes and wood grain texture. Classic cross-over corners.
• Back: Freestanding easel back with luxurious heavy moiré silk / peau de soie fabric in champagne gold. Features a sturdy easel kickstand for tabletop display and a metal ring for wall hanging.
• Closure: Original brass butterfly / twist tabs to secure photo
• Quality: This is a high-end vanity frame from the 1960s/70s. The kind you would have found at a fine department store.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPH:
Original vintage black and white photograph, 1960s era. Shows full-length portrait of a blonde woman in evening wear. Wonderful snapshot of mid-century Las Vegas entertainment culture. The photo shows some vintage condition issues from age and storage - there is some emulsion lifting / water spotting at the bottom edge and a small chip on the left side, as seen in photos. This is reflected in price and is part of its authentic vintage charm.
Please Note on History: Family lore dates this to the 1960s at Caesar's Palace. Caesar's Palace officially opened in August 1966, so this photo is likely from its opening years in the mid-to-late 1960s. Selling as family story / as-found history.
MEASUREMENTS (from photos with ruler):
• Overall Exterior: Approx. 8" tall x 6" wide (measured tip to tip of bamboo)
• Inside Opening / Photo Size: Holds approx. 5" x 3.5" - 4x6 photo with border. The photo currently inside measures approx. 6" x 4"
• Weight: Very heavy for its size - approx. 1 lb+ - not plastic or resin
Please see all photos for exact condition - I have included close-ups of the bamboo detail, the back fabric, and the ruler for scale.
CONDITION:
• Frame: Very good vintage condition. Bright gold gilt with expected light patina / wear to high points consistent with age. Sturdy, no breaks. Easel works perfectly. Back fabric is clean with some light soiling. See photos.
• Photo: Good vintage condition. Original print with age wear as noted above - spotting / lifting at bottom.
This is a fantastic Hollywood Regency vanity piece, perfect for a gallery wall, MCM bar cart, dresser, or for any collector of Las Vegas memorabilia and mid-century dance / entertainment history.
