Sweet little wise owl puzzle box! This is the classic Indian rosewood intarsia puzzle box collectors love - hand carved from solid sheesham wood with carved feather and dot detail, and a hidden storage compartment inside.
It's a puzzle and a box in one. The 6 interlocking pieces only come apart in one sequence. Slide and lift them just right and the center opens to a small secret compartment - perfect for rings, earrings, tiny keepsakes, or a folded surprise note.
Details:
• Material: Solid Sheesham Wood / Indian Rosewood, polished - not veneer
• Shape: Stylized owl - some sellers list as fish, the carving is very folk-arty
• Size: Approx. 5" long x 2.75" tall x 2" wide - fits comfortably in the hand. Compartment about 1.5" x 1"
• Origin: Handmade in India, 1980s-90s import - the kind sold in fair-trade / gift shops
• Construction: 6 piece intarsia puzzle, no hinges or hardware
Condition:
Good pre-owned vintage condition. Warm reddish brown patina with natural wood grain. Light surface wear and softening to edges from age and handling. No cracks or chips. Puzzle fits snug.
