Wealthy households utilized these elegant stands to protect fine mahogany or walnut tabletops while creating a dazzling visual display of light and reflection.
As the 19th century progressed into the Edwardian and Art Nouveau periods, manufacturing techniques evolved to include ornate spammaster and cast brass or pot metal frames plated with silver or bronze finishes.
