Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
Westmoreland Glass Company produced glassware like this in Grapeville, Pennsylvania, beginning in the late nineteenth century. These decorative vessels were made during the middle of the twentieth century to meet a strong popular demand for milky white opaque tableware. Workers pressed molten glass into detailed metal molds to create the raised grape clusters and the open lace rim.
Homemakers placed these small footed jars on dining tables to hold spoons or small candies during meals. They were used in kitchens and dining rooms across America for everyday service as well as festive occasions. Eventually, changing dining habits and the closure of the factory brought the production of these traditional pressed glass items to a close.
