Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
Westmoreland Glass Company manufactured decorative glassware in Grapeville, Pennsylvania, starting in the late nineteenth century. These opaque white glass items, commonly known as milk glass, were produced in large quantities throughout the mid-twentieth century for everyday home use and display. They were created by pressing molten glass into detailed metal molds that produced high-relief patterns such as grapes, leaves, and beaded edges.
Homemakers placed these decorative covered dishes on living room coffee tables, sideboards, and bedroom vanities to hold candies, nuts, or small trinkets. As dining and interior decorating habits shifted toward simpler, modern aesthetics in the later decades, the demand for ornate pressed glass declined. Production eventually ceased when the company closed its factory, leaving these decorative containers as nostalgic mementos of mid-century domestic life.
