Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
The Westmoreland Glass Company manufactured decorative glassware in Grapeville, Pennsylvania, beginning in the late nineteenth century and continuing through the twentieth century. They produced opaque white glass, often called milk glass, to emulate historic European ceramics and fashionable tableware styles of the Victorian era. Workers pressed molten glass into detailed iron molds featuring raised fruit motifs, then hand-crimped the hot rims to create distinctive ruffled edges.
Homemakers used these pedestal dishes to serve candies, nuts, or fruits during formal dinners and afternoon gatherings in dining rooms and parlors. They were displayed on sideboards or coffee tables as decorative accents when not in active dining use. Production of these traditional pressed glass tableware items gradually declined as changing domestic lifestyles favored simpler, casual table settings.
