Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
The Westmoreland Glass Company made pressed and blown glassware in Grapeville, Pennsylvania, starting in the late nineteenth century. They produced popular household tableware and decorative pieces designed to mimic expensive European porcelain and cut crystal for everyday American homes. Their items were formed by pressing molten glass into heavy metal molds and then hand-finishing the edges while the material was still warm.
Families used these sets during holiday meals and formal dinners to serve sauces, gravies, and melted butter at the dining table. The pieces were passed down through generations and kept in china cabinets as part of matching dining room suites. Production of this traditional pattern eventually declined as dining habits became more casual and domestic glass manufacturing shifted overseas.
