Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
Fenton Art Glass was founded by brothers Frank and John Fenton in Ohio, United States, in 1905 before moving their operations to Williamstown, West Virginia, two years later. They became famous for creating innovative colored and opalescent glassware, including their signature milk glass pieces that captured the look of imported European porcelain. These decorative items were shaped using traditional glassblowing techniques combined with specialized molds that pressed patterns directly into the molten material.
Families used these decorative vases on mantels, sideboards, and dining tables to hold fresh flowers during everyday meals and special gatherings. The production of such pressed opalescent novelty glassware continued through much of the twentieth century until changing domestic tastes and rising manufacturing costs led to shifts in production. The factory eventually closed its traditional glass-making furnaces, leaving generations of these distinctive white glassware pieces in homes around the world.
