Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
Chambersticks were essential household lighting implements during the 18th and 19th centuries, designed to safely illuminate dark hallways and bedchambers. The wide saucer base served to catch any dripping wax, while the loop handle allowed the holder to be easily carried from room to room.
Many of these functional pieces featured an internal ejector mechanism, operated by a thumbpiece on the exterior stem, which enabled the user to easily push out the remaining candle stub. Crafted primarily through traditional brass casting and turning methods, these items combined utilitarian durability with simple domestic elegance.
