A charming vintage lovespoon, hand-carved from a single piece of dark hardwood.
Features:
• functional spoon bowl at one end
• central cage with one captive ball (symbol of children/family)
• pierced heart handle at top (symbol of love)
• measures approx. 5½" long x 1¼" wide
This style originated in Wales in the 1600s as a courting gift — a young man would spend winter evenings carving symbols to show his intentions. The ball-in-cage was the show-off carve: it proves the piece was made from one solid block with no glue.
