Vintage pair of Japanese Sosaku (creative) kokeshi dolls, circa 1960s-1970s. Mother and daughter set with fixed heads set at a gentle inward tilt, giving that sweet conversational pose.
Both are hand-turned from light natural wood with a clear satin finish. Details:
• peaceful sleeping eyes with long lashes, tiny red heart mouth, black hair in a low bun
• wide black obi painted with white chrysanthemum (kiku) flowers, sash draping down the front
• lower bodies decorated with burned-wood pyrography wheat/barley stalks, a harvest and abundance motif
No artist signatures visible. A lovely matched set for kokeshi collectors, Japandi or minimalist decor, or a mother-daughter gift.
