Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
The L.E. Smith Glass Company, founded in 1907 in Thomas, West Virginia, was a prominent American manufacturer of pressed glass tableware and decorative items. They were known for producing a wide array of patterns, many of which have become highly sought after by collectors. The "Moon and Stars" pattern, introduced in the 1940s, is one of their most iconic and recognizable designs, featuring celestial motifs pressed into the glass. This particular item is a toothpick holder, a common form for the "Moon and Stars" pattern. The pattern itself is characterized by alternating circular medallions containing stars, surrounded by crescent moons and other decorative elements. The blue color, often referred to as cobalt blue or sapphire blue, is a popular variation of this pattern, and the glass often exhibits a slight glow under UV light, a characteristic sought by collectors.
