Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
Stone China, also known as Ironstone, is a type of earthenware pottery that was popular in the 19th century. It was developed in England as a durable and affordable alternative to porcelain, often imitating the appearance of Chinese porcelain. The "Warranted" mark was frequently used by British potters to indicate the quality and durability of their wares, assuring consumers of its strength and resistance to chipping. This type of pottery was widely exported and used for everyday tableware as well as decorative items. The presence of a crest or coat of arms on such pieces often indicated a specific manufacturer or a commissioned design for a particular client or region. The term "Stone China" itself refers to the dense, vitrified nature of the ceramic body, making it strong and less porous than other types of earthenware.
