Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
Pressed glass, a technique developed in the 19th century, allowed for the mass production of decorative glassware with intricate patterns. This method involved pressing molten glass into a mold, creating detailed designs that were previously only achievable through more labor-intensive methods like cutting or etching. Pressed glass became very popular for tableware and decorative items due to its affordability and the wide variety of patterns available.
This particular plate, with its octagonal center featuring a relief of fruit and surrounding starburst and fan patterns, is characteristic of pressed glass designs from the Art Deco period and mid-20th century. Such plates were commonly used for serving fruits, desserts, or as decorative accents in homes, reflecting the era's aesthetic sensibilities and the growing accessibility of decorative home goods.
