Hi Everyone! I am Amy, one of the Moderators here at Secondhandsquad.net. Part of that role is to assist with any questions you may have, so fire away! I am from Columbus, Ohio and love thrifting and perusing our local antique stores! I enjoy pieces that remind me of my grandparents and love the hunt of finding unique treasures to bring into my home. While I love the reselling business, I find my joy in giving new life to old pieces and sharing that with others.
Milk glass, a type of opaque white glass, gained significant popularity in the mid-19th century and continued to be widely produced through the 20th century. It was often used for decorative items, tableware, and even pharmaceutical containers due to its milky appearance and versatility. Many American companies, such as Fenton, Duncan & Miller, and Anchor Hocking (including its Fire-King line), produced extensive ranges of milk glass. This particular piece, with its divided sections and gold gilt rim, is characteristic of serving ware designed for appetizers, relishes, or candies, common during the mid-20th century. The scalloped edge adds a decorative touch, typical of the era's aesthetic. Such items were functional yet designed to enhance the presentation of food on a dining table.
