Elegant pair of vintage Japanese Chokin porcelain pieces featuring exquisite gold and silver metal engravings inspired by the centuries-old Chokin art form. The larger lidded ginger jar showcases a pair of songbirds perched among flowering branches with butterflies overhead, while the coordinating vase features a single bird nestled among blooming plum blossoms.
Finished in rich glossy black porcelain with ornate gold decorative borders, these pieces blend traditional Japanese artistry with timeless elegance. Chokin artwork is created by engraving delicate metal designs that are accented with genuine gold and silver before being permanently fused to porcelain.
Inscription on the bottom says: "The Art of Chokin: Metal engravings from Japan are created by the ancient art of Chokin. Gilded with gold and silver, the engravings were originally created to decorate the armament of the SAMURAI warriors. ~ Made in Japan"
