Vintage handmade wheat straw corn dolly / harvest maiden figurine. Material: Crafted from dried natural wheat stems, braided straw, and blue ribbons. [1, 2] Design: Shaped like a figure wearing a wide-brimmed straw hat, a braided bodice, a full skirt made of wheat heads, and carrying a small woven basket. [1, 2] History: Corn dollies are ancient folk art figures traditionally woven from the last sheaf of the harvest to house the spirit of the grain through the winter. [1, 2, 3] She stands approx. 13 inches tall. Her dress is formed from natural wheat sheaves with a woven / braided straw bodice and waistband. She wears a woven straw hat trimmed with dried flowers, a blue satin ribbon sash, and carries a tiny woven basket filled with dried flowers tied with blue ribbon. Shown from front, back, and side — and bottom view shows the burlap-covered base she stands on. Excellent vintage handmade condition with natural variation in the straw. No maker marks found.
